This week in the studio...
September 1, 2010
. A brief interlude… Today I took a break from the deadlines, the errands, the laundry, the refereeing between the children, and worked on a project just for myself. This weekend we’re having a party to celebrate my mom and step-dad’s 25
th
anniversary, and I was planning to wear a dress which my daughter referred to as “better than nothing.” [Age six, she thinks a party requires a dress.] It’s a ‘50s-style, sleeveless, boat neck, full skirt (LOTS of pleats), mushroom taupe-y color. Sounds ok, but is kind of dull. Haven't worn it in over a year, which is telling. And “better than nothing” isn’t what I was planning on. So, armed with bits of lovely Nicey Jane, fusible webbing, and inspiration from Sandi Henderson and her amazing book, I went to work. No longer boring, the dress is adorned with cream and pink flowers (with streaks of orange and red) and mossy green leaves, on the shoulder, a nip at the waist, and a bit on the back. Tonight I will sew tiny cream buttons at the centers for accent. In typical fashion, my camera battery was dead, so there are no photos of the process or the finished product, but I will post some next time. Here’s to the last lazy days of summer!
